The board is carefully tailored to reflect the unique features of Dream Park, incorporating vibrant, custom-designed icons that are both visually appealing and highly functional. By integrating bilingual options, in both English and Spanish, we ensure that every member of the community feels welcomed and supported, enhancing the overall park experience for children and families alike.
Hui Aloha - Hawaii
In a significant move toward inclusivity, the County of Maui unveiled a new Playground Communication Board at Keōpūolani Park in Kahului, enhancing the play experience for nonverbal children. Located at the Hui Aloha playground—the first Boundless Playground in the state, which opened its doors in 2010—this board marks a milestone as the first of its kind within Maui County parks. The Hui Aloha playground has long been a beacon of accessibility, designed to provide children of all abilities with the opportunity to play and interact together. The introduction of the Playground Communication Board builds on this foundation, offering nonverbal children a vital tool to express themselves and engage with peers.

City of Plantation, Florida
In a remarkable display of advocacy and community leadership, Pamela Rowe, MA, CCC-SLP, has been instrumental in enhancing inclusivity within the community parks of Plantation, Florida. Recognized for her dedication with a proclamation for Communication Board Day, Pamela's work serves as a beacon for communities nationwide. As a seasoned speech-language pathologist and passionate advocate for inclusive communication, Pamela has successfully coordinated the installation of bilingual communication boards across nine pivotal locations in Plantation.

Lake Placid
Lake Placid has taken significant strides towards inclusivity with the installation of new communication boards at Teddy Bear Park and Peacock Park, spearheaded by local speech-language pathologist Trish Friedlander and her sister, Diana. Following the success of the initial board in Peacock Park, which saw extensive community use and engagement, the initiative has expanded, driven by the positive impact and community support. This community project, supported by contributions from the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism and the Lake Placid Village Board of Trustees, highlights the collaborative effort involving local organizations. The initiative not only fosters inclusivity but also raises awareness about different communication methods, akin to learning new languages like sign language or French, as Trish Friedlander notes.
